Give Blood!

We need you!

Blood donors in Sheffield are being asked to come forward help build up stocks.

New and regular donors are welcomed to go to the Sheffield Donor Centre at Cathedral Court, Church Street in the city centre. No appointment is needed.

Due to a postal strike in some parts of the country last week, regular donors might not have received reminder letters about the sunday session, which was from 9.00am-2.30pm. If the location or time is not convenient, visit www.blood. co.uk or call 0300 123 23 23 to find out your next donor session or alternative donor centre.

Sheffield Half Marathon

RUN JOHN RUN!!

Many congratulations to all who completed this year's Sheffield Half Marathon. Weather was glorious (prolly a bit too warm for those who were running, especially those with fancy costume on!) and many turned out to watch this year's race despite the event being on the same day as the London Marathon. Around 5,500 competed in the half marathon with Jason Ward taking first place with a time of 1:08:02. (Rebecca Robinson - womens 1st place with a very respectable time of 1:14:52)

My friends ran and all completed the half marathon. Pauline's other half, Roger Newman, finished in a very good time of 1:35:41, Lloyd Wilson and Gary Cummings crossed the finish line in 1:50:25 and 1:52:12 respectively and John Butterworth completing his first ever half marathon in 2:20:09. Well done guys!

Some pictures of the runners...and supporters too!

It's Chinese New Year 2009!

Year of the Ox

The Chinese year 4706 begins on 26 Jan 2009, apparently. So bye bye to Year of the Rat... the year of wealth?!?

Some people asked why just the twelve animals??

Legend has it that in ancient times, Buddha asked all the animals to meet him on Chinese New Year. Twelve came, and Buddha named a year after each one in the order they arrived. He announced that the people born in each animal's year would have some traits of that animal's personality. Those born in ox years tend to be painters, engineers, and architects. They are stable, fearless, obstinate, hard-working and friendly. Jack Nicholson, Jane Fonda, Walt Disney, Barack Obama and Anthony Hopkins were apparently all born in the year of the stubborn ox.

What do my cats think I am...?

What are they thinking really...??

When they look at you, what's actually in their mind? Do they think..."ahhh my member of staff who operates the food machine is here..."? Do they see me as their big fur-less ugly cat sister or "oh that very useful and convenient hot water bottle/ body warmer" or a back-scratcher or just 'some-thing' who happens to share their home?

Besides food, sleep and cleaning, what else do they think about?
Do they think I am dumb and slow because when it comes to understanding what they want when they're meowing at me, they have to try 'herding' me toward the feeding area or the front door to let them out?

I guess we will never know the true answer... but one thing I am pretty sure, they know they are at the top of the pecking order in this house and have authority over all the others, i.e.... me!

My first ever blog entry!

Well it was inevitable.

Everywhere you look on the internet nowadays, there is always some sort of link to blogs of some description. Having spent quite a long time developing my website, it is only right to compliment it with a blog of my own. With so much to say and so little time, the blog will prolly make keeping up-to-date that bit easier and quicker.

As a blog, it represents the start of something exciting and a key ingredient in something that I'm making, not quite sure what it will be yet, but I guess I will find out soon enough! Let's see how long this blog will last and if it last as long as the 100th post, that will be a reasonable celebration point I guess.
